This week has been a bit difficult for me with regards to on-line things since my laptop broke over the weekend and I am involved in curriculum training this week. So, while I feel I have not been expanding my PLN on-line this week, I have been making good real connections with people from across the state.
I will be piloting a state written bio-chem unit this year, unless they alter my schedule, and have been attending a state wide training with 18 other teachers from across the state. Most districts are represented and I get to interact with the head of science in my district and at the state.
It is times like this I am glad that DE is so small. Most of us travel no more than 1 hour to get to the DOE building and we get to actually talk and contribute to what happens across the whole state. When I worked in MD I never had apportunities like this because i was so far away from the state dept of education and each district was more of an independent entitiy- and even then the districts were so large that i did not get to contribute nearly as much as I do here.

Mary, I am interested in what you will be doing with your biochem materials. This year I am teaching a second year chemistry class with one semester of organic and the second is biochem. I am essentially being the extra teacher for a class grew larger than the allowable load for the teacher who developed it. It is very lab oriented, and I would be interested in how you are approaching it.
ReplyDeletetom, i will try to write qn outline for you and e-mail it over the weekend.
ReplyDeleteMary, thanks, the best e-mail is nitzwell@mindspring.com
